Wei-Long is currently a postdoc associate working on developing neural networks inspired by thalamus and prefrontal cortex interactions in cognitive flexibility. What are the computational advantages of adding a thalamus-like component in neural networks for context switch and continual learning? He is interested in developing neuroscience-inspired artificial intelligence and has broad research interests in computational neuroscience, machine learning and brain-computer interactions. Prior to MIT, he was a research fellow in the Department of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he developed AI to improve clinical healthcare. He obtained his PhD in the Department of Computer Science, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he focused on decoding human mental states from non-invasive brain signals. When he is outside the lab, he likes playing badminton and reading.
